About Canyon Park, WA

Canyon Park, Washington was once its own community, but was annexed by the city of Bothell in 1992. Up until that point, the community was small and rural. The annexation by Bothell improved the community’s access to public service and jobs. The history of the Bothell region dates back to long before American settlers ventured into Puget Sound. For thousands of years, native tribes enjoyed the abundance of the region, fishing for salmon, and using the natural water systems to get around. Then in the late 1800’s settlers began streaming in. This resulted in the Puget Sound War of 1856 and the eventual Treaty of Point Elliot, which caused the removal of natives to reservations. The rest of the 1800’s saw settlers flooding into the area. Some settlers came for the jobs that the timber industry created. Others came for the seclusion of the wilderness. All of the settlers were affected when the railroad arrived in the early 1900’s. This arrival brought with it access to markets for timber and fish. Once the railroad arrived the populations of the communities began to swell, Seattle of course, becoming the biggest community in the region.

These jobs are primarily software development and biotechnology. The area’s growth in this job sector even prompted the University of Washington to open a campus and research center in Bothell. Since 2010, the community has committed over 150 million dollars to the reinvestment in the downtown corridor. Currently the population of Bothell is around 34,000 people and growing.
