About Fobes Hill, WA

History

Fobes Hill is located in Snohomish County, Washington. The history of the region dates back to long before American settlers began streaming into the area in search of opportunity in the Pacific Northwest and their chance of getting their hands on the natural abundance of the region. Native tribes inhabited the region until the Treaty of Point Elliot in 1855, which gave the United States access to the land and displaced the locals.

Fobes Hill is located between the towns of Snohomish and Everett. Both towns were founded around 1860. Snohomish was founded by Emory C. Ferguson in 1858 and Everett by Dennis Brigham in 1861. Both towns had hoped to be included in the path of the Great Northern Railroad. Planners thought that if the railroad came to the area, the towns would explode in size. The planners were right about the impact the railroad would have, they just were not right about where the railroad would end up. The Great Northern Railroad ended up to the south in Seattle, causing that region of the state to explode and the region of Fobes Hill to stay rather small. The region did benefit from the Yukon Gold Rush though because opportune locals built and established riverboats, which ultimately were used to ferry supplies through the mountains for the prospectors.

Today

The community is very small still today. It is still unincorporated with a population of roughly 3,000 people. Everett, its neighbor to the northwest has grown into one of the largest cities in the state of Washington with a population of around 103,000 people. Everett benefits from its location on the water. Residents of the community can easily live in Fobes Hill and work in Everett, which is one of the reasons the community survives still today.

Things to do

Life around the community is rather laid back. Seattle is only a 45-minute drive to the south, so any residents that want to experience the city can easily do that. Many things to do around the community revolve around nature, which is one of the things the Pacific Northwest is most well known for. Everett is home to lots of green space and several outdoor places. Two of the most well known spots are the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens and the Nishiyama Garden. The arboretum is home to several plant species and sculptures, while the Nishiyama Garden is a very popular Japanese style garden that attracts visitors from all over. Locals also love heading out to Jetty Island in the summer. The island is home to over 45 different bird species and springtime whale watching. In addition to these spots, Everett has over 40 parks within the community and a bustling waterfront.

Fobes Hill is also a short drive from Snohomish. Snohomish is home to a beautiful downtown district as well as several parks and local museums. Some of the better- known spots are the Blackman House Museum, Arts of Snohomish, Cady Park, Lord Hill Regional Park, and the Snohomish County Centennial Trail for cycling. The region is great for the best of both worlds, bustling city and nature.
