History

Before the 20th century, the area that is now the residential communities of Snohomish county was once a densely wooded landscape with small tranquil lakes. During the 20th century, the wooded area was gradually logged by local paper mills. After the dramatic change in landscape, and the spread of the railway, the area was developed into small communities. During this time, the area known as Martha Lake developed around one of these local lakes. The land directly around Martha Lake was privately owned and considered to be a private resort by the owner. As the community continued to develop, the intention of the original owners was for the property to be developed into condominiums or a business park. Local residents and community members organized and rallied to have the land around the lake be developed into a regional park. The development plans of the owners were denied by the county and the area was acquired by the Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department with the strong support of local lake residents.

The lake itself is a popular fishing spot to many locals and residents of the county.
