About Mill Creek, WA
Located in the northwest of Washington in Snohomish County, Mill Creek is located just 20 miles outside of the city of Seattle. In fact, the city is a part of the greater Seattle metropolitan area. In 2010, the population of the commuter city reached 18,244.
History
Prior to the start of the 21st century, the area that now makes up the small communities of Snohomish county was once a densely wooded landscape. When the Bothell-Everett Highway was built, much of this land lining the highway was developed into apartment complexes and small living communities. What is now called Mill Creek was originally intended to be a community built around a golf course and country club. However, the town became much more than just a golf course community. It became a growing suburban city that was officially incorporated on August 30th, 1983. Since its incorporation the community has undergone substantial population growth, economic growth, and development. Now 4.69 square miles the city contains a small mixed-used downtown area named Mill Creek Town Center.
Today
Today Mill Creek is a great place for families looking to be close to Seattle. There are five local elementary schools, and one large 4A high school with over 2,000 students. The school grounds include the green belt located in the southern part of town. All of the schools are part of the Everett School District. According to the 2010 census, over 50% of the residents are married or living together couples.
Thanks to its location and what is considered a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, the community is a great place to spend time outdoors. The community prides itself on being a community that supports a physically active and outdoor lifestyle. For the residents, the city contains ten neighborhood and community parks, as well as recreational facilities. Local families love to visit Nickel Creek Park or Heron Park, or in sports season the local sports park. The golf course the original community was built around in 1975, the Mill Creek Country Club, is still open and a local favorite to club members, as well as visitors to the community. The 18 hole golf was designed by a famous course architect, Ted Robinson. Just outside of town, community residents can visit the beautiful nature preserve and Penny Creek. Those interested in venturing a little further can visit the Snohomish county parks located nearby, including McCollum Park and North Creek Park. Much like most of the communities located outside of Seattle, the community has many public and private walking and multiuse trials that weave in and out of the community. These 23 miles of trials are considered a hallmark of the community.The most popular public trail for local cyclists is the North Creek Trial which starts in the McCollum County Park to the south and runs along North Creek. The North Creek Trail is 7 1⁄4 miles and the surface of the trail is made of asphalt and dirt.
Additionally, the trial provides access to local fisherman who visit North Creek.
